Katy's living room started the way most new-build living rooms do: white walls, flat overhead lighting, one window wall doing all the emotional work, and a whole lot of nothing. It was a blank canvas in the truest, most intimidating sense.
She didn't need more square footage. She needed a story for the room to tell.
That's where Santuario comes in my five-layer approach to a space (light, texture, sound, scent, form). Katy's room needed all five, but it needed form first: something with enough presence to anchor an open-concept space that flows straight into the kitchen.

Straight-arm sectionals chop open floor plans into boxes. For Katy's space, we went curved a deep navy velvet sectional that wraps the seating area instead of fencing it off. Curves read as intentional, custom, editorial.

The centerpiece: a coffee table that grounds the whole room
A round, fluted-wood-base coffee table softens all those sofa curves while giving the eye a warm, textural landing spot. Style it the way we did: a stack of books, one small trailing plant, a bowl of natural wood beads.
The soul of the room: the rug
Nothing ages a new-build living room faster than skipping the rug, and nothing elevates one faster than getting the right one. This blue-and-cream medallion rug is doing the heaviest lifting in the whole design.
The texture layer: leather swivel chairs
Two cognac leather swivel-barrel chairs face the sofa across the coffee table, adding warmth and a material contrast that keeps the room from feeling like a matching furniture-store set.
The architecture layer: fluted wall panels
We flanked the TV wall with vertical fluted wood panels and paired them with slim linear sconces — instantly giving a flat builder wall the dimension of custom millwork. It's the single highest-impact, lowest-cost upgrade in this entire room.
The finishing touches
Tall arched leaning mirror, faux olive tree, console table with ceramic lamp, and a cream throw with floral accent pillows round out the room.
